Frequently asked questions
Standalone MOT Cover
What is Standalone MOT Cover?
Standalone MOT Cover can be given to any Audi, Volkswagen or Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles customer, regardless of whether they've bought an Approved Used car or not - and at no cost to them. This is not available for SEAT or Škoda customers.
MOT Cover pays for the cost of repairs (up to £750) where the refusal to issue an MOT is due to a part covered under the policy. The customer has to pay the first £10 of each claim (the excess). MOT Cover is an insurance product and begins 90 days after the issue date. If the customer’s MOT becomes legally due in the first 90 days, the insurance will not apply however, the following MOT will be covered.
The term 'Standalone' differentiates it to the MOT Cover provided alongside the Approved Used Warranty.
How much does it cost?
It's free to customers. As it is a policy of insurance there's no VAT, but there is an Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) already included in the price. The cost to Retailers is shown whilst activating cover.
How will I get charged for it?
We will keep track of all Standalone MOT Cover activations made by your organisation. We will invoice you at the end of every month (the invoice will also contain charges for any warranty activations). Payment will be taken by Direct Debit 14 days later - so there's no action required by you.
How do I activate cover?
In exactly the same way as you do for the Approved Used Warranty - via the VWFS Warranty System. There is a guide that explains how to do this and is available to download from the “'How to' support” section on this page.
For Audi Centres, Volkswagen Retailers and Volkswagen Van Centres, an option to select MOT Cover will appear (alongside any applicable Warranty options) once you have entered the vehicle details. In this case, select the MOT Cover product and just complete the remaining information requested.
How do I make a claim?
Claims can be made via the VWFS Warranty System. Enter the vehicle's Registration details (or VIN/policy reference) to locate the policy and then log a claim against it. There is a guide which explains how to do this and is available to download from the “'How to' support” section on this page.
Is there any documentation to give to the customer?
Yes, you will be able to print a copy of the customer's Confirmation of Cover Certificate once the cover has been activated on the system. No hard copies of the Standalone MOT Cover Booklets are available. It is important to capture the customers email address as we will email copies of the Cover Booklet and Confirmation of Cover overnight.
Are there any restrictions of cover in the policy?
Standalone MOT Cover starts 90 days after the policy is activated in the VWFS Warranty system. If the next MOT is legally due in the first 90 days the cover will not apply, however the following MOT will be covered. If the MOT Cover policy is set up more than three months prior to the MOT becoming legally due then the cover is applicable to that MOT.
There is a £10 customer excess and a £750 claims limit applied. Refer to the Cover Booklet for full terms and conditions, which is available for download in the 'Customer documentation' section above.
If I repair a vehicle which has both a VWFS Warranty and MOT Cover, which should I log the claim against?
You can only claim against the MOT policy as a result of an MOT test failure. Assuming the repair is as a result of the MOT test failure, then you should always log the claim against that.
